Brown Butter Rice Krispie Treats

Rice Krispie treats are a classic favorite, and today we’re adding a little twist to them! Browning the butter is a small step that goes a long way. Trust me, once you try these, you won’t be able to go back to the plain ol’ rice krispie treats you’ve always known.

Total Time 1 hour 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • ½ cup butter (1 stick)
  • 13 oz marshmallows

Instructions

  • Line a 9x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides to lift the completed rice krispies treat out. Lightly grease the parchment paper with butter.
  • In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Wait until it melts and begins to bubble, which is when it starts browning, releasing a heavenly, nutty aroma. Then, add the marshmallows to the butter and stir until the marshmallows are completely melted.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the cereal with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon, making sure to thoroughly coat the cereal with the marshmallow mixture.
  • Transfer the mixture into the prepared pan and gently press down on them to create a flat, even layer. Allow them to cool for at least one hour. Remove from pan using the overhanging parchment and cut into desired squares.

Notes

I made these rice krispie treats using my homemade marshmallows but store brought works fine too!
