Before we begin, I do want to say this isn’t the traditional Hong Kong French Toast, this is like the dessert version of it but you can easily swap out the custard filling for peanut butter and the whip cream and caramel for some butter and syrup if you’re looking to make this for breakfast! It’s still 100% delicious.
Let’s make some toast!
For 3 slices: evenly spread a thin layer of peanut butter on one slice of bread from edge to edge. Add another slice on top and spread the butter from edge to edge again, top with the final slice. Slice off the crust. Repeat for the remaining slices of bread.
In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs, milk, and brown sugar until smooth. Dip the bread into the egg mixture, making sure all sides of the sandwich are coated.
In a medium sauce pan, heat vegetable oil over low-medium heat to 300F. Then carefully lower one sandwich into the hot oil. Fry on all sides until golden brown for about 15 seconds on the edges and around 1-2 minutes on the larger sides. Remove from oil and pat dry with a paper towel. Repeat the frying process for the remaining sandwich.
Top with whipped cream and caramel and enjoy!
