I’ve never had an actual orange julius, so I can’t compare this to the real thing but oh, do I love this frothy sunshine in a cup. ☀️ It’s everything you need to quench your seemingly endless thirst. Sweet, creamy, and it’s made with oranges, that automatically makes it healthy, right? No? Okay. 😞
What’s an orange julius, you ask? It’s a fluffy little beverage made with oranges, ice, vanilla, milk, and sugar! While there are variations that use egg whites, we won’t be using them for this recipe—that’s an adventure for another day.
The drink was born in 1926 out of a simple orange juice stand opened by Julius Freed that honestly wasn’t doing that great. What’s so special about plain ole’ orange juice anyways? Then along comes Freed’s real estate broker, who, unable to handle the acidic of orange juice (🙁), developed a drink that had a frothier, creamy consistency.
Legend has it, our sweet little guy got his name when customers began lining up outside Julius’s stand and said “give me an orange, Julius!”
How do you make it? It’s easy! This drink is easily made with whatever you have at hand without the side quest of having to acquire ingredients. It’s the perfect quarantine drink. All you need is oranges, milk, sweetener, ice, and vanilla! And a blender of course.
For this recipe, I used two cups of freshly squeezed orange juice which is around four oranges. A splash of vanilla, a cup of milk, water, sugar, ice cubes and you’re ready to go! Blend until smooth and viola, you have the perfect, frothy drink!

This was amazing! Super quick, easy, and using household ingredients that were readily available. It’s also really easy to adjust if you want more orange flavor or sweetener. Thank you!
